Observe
Our planning includes snowpack observations, snow stability assessments and daily guide briefings covering areas of potential avalanche concern and other mountain hazards.
Safety
At Freeride Kosovo, your safety is our priority. We aim to deliver memorable skiing and mountain adventures through careful planning, experienced leadership and responsible decisions in the terrain.
Our team
Our operations are led by mountain rescue technicians from the Kosovo Mountain Search & Rescue Service (KMSRS), with many years of experience in mountain safety and guiding. Our guides hold national-level qualifications and are also members of KMSRS.
KMSRS is a full member of the International Commission for Alpine Rescue (ICAR). Through our involvement in the service, members of our team participate in international congresses, training and the work of the Avalanche and Terrestrial Rescue Commissions. These exchanges bring us into contact with avalanche researchers, mountain emergency medicine specialists, equipment manufacturers, and IFMGA mountain guides and trainers.
We use this knowledge to inform our practices and continually improve our safety procedures, drawing on relevant research and guidance from ICAR, the UIAA and other recognised international organisations.
Every morning
Each day’s programme is planned around local weather, snow conditions, assessed avalanche hazard and the abilities of the group.
Our planning includes snowpack observations, snow stability assessments and daily guide briefings covering areas of potential avalanche concern and other mountain hazards.
These assessments inform terrain selection, route planning and group management.
Conditions can change throughout the day. Our team may adjust routes, avoid certain slopes or change the programme whenever safety requires it.
No planned descent takes priority over a safety decision.
Your role in safety
Safety requires cooperation between our team and every guest. Please communicate honestly about your skiing ability, fitness and any health conditions that may affect your participation.
Understanding the risks
Cat-skiing and ski touring take place in uncontrolled mountain terrain. Avalanches, falls, natural obstacles, changing weather and variable snow conditions can cause serious injury or death.
Experienced guides, careful planning and safety equipment help manage these risks, but cannot eliminate them. Understanding this environment and following the team’s instructions are essential parts of participating.
Travel insurance that covers off-piste skiing and helicopter evacuation is required. Kosovo Mountain Rescue: 0800 80008, free to call. General emergency: 112.
