Freeride Kosovo has operated above Deçan since 2022. One snowcat, one group at a time, run by people from the valley below the terrain.
The company
Set up in 2022 to open terrain that had no winter access.
Freeride Kosovo took its first clients in 2022 and has run a season every winter since, including winters with limited snow. The company is registered as Freeride Kosovo LTD and is based in Deçan, in western Kosovo.
The terrain above the valley has no lifts and no road access in winter. The operation exists because the company owns and runs a snowcat — a Pisten Bully 300 with a cabin built in-house for up to fifteen people — and opens the road itself every morning. It is deliberately small: one machine, one group at a time, and three zones rotated on conditions rather than on a fixed programme.

The people
Guides who ski this terrain outside the season too.
The company is run by its owners, who guide the trips themselves. Between them they cover ski touring, freeriding, snowcat operation and mountain rescue, and they know the aspects and the approaches in each of the three zones.
Because the group is capped at twelve, guests deal with the same people all week — from the airport transfer through to the last run.

How we work
How the operation is run.
Four constraints that do not change from week to week.

One group at a time
Only one group operates in the zone at a time. Twelve people, one snowcat, no lift-served skiing in the area — whoever is booked has the terrain to themselves.

Conditions decide the day
The zone is chosen each morning by the guide, on the snowpack and the wind — not fixed in advance. Having three separate massifs is what makes that possible.

Standard avalanche equipment, no exceptions
Transceiver, shovel and probe are compulsory for everyone on the mountain, guides included. A search exercise is run on day one so that nobody is using their equipment for the first time in an emergency.

Everything handled from the airport
Transfers, accommodation, meals and guiding are arranged by us. Guests deal with one company for the whole week rather than with a chain of local suppliers.

Above the Deçan valley
Where we operate
Bjeshkët e Nemuna, western Kosovo.
The Accursed Mountains run along the borders with Albania and Montenegro and hold the highest terrain in Kosovo. We work three zones above Deçan — Bjeshka e Gacaferrit, Bjeshka e Junikut and Bjeshka e Dobroshit — with five routes between them, from 1,500 up to 2,550 metres. The ski area is about four kilometres wide, and the slopes face north and northeast.
Because the range sits close to the Adriatic, it takes the highest snowfall in southeastern Europe. In summer this is grazing land on the Peaks of the Balkans trail. In winter it is empty: no lifts, and one guest house that stays open.
